What point of sale hardware do I need for a retail store?
That depends on your business type and where you’re selling. Some brick-and-mortar locations use a full countertop setup that includes a POS tablet, card reader, receipt printer, scanner, and cash drawer. Others use mobile POS devices to sell on the floor.
But if you’re selling at popups or events, all you need is a device (like a smartphone or mobile POS), software (like Shopify POS app), and a product to sell.
What’s the difference between POS hardware and POS software?
POS software, like the Shopify POS app, is the application that processes transactions, tracks inventory, manages customers, and generates reports. POS hardware refers to the physical devices that run the software, such as card readers, receipt printers, barcode scanners, and cash drawers. Together, they power your in-person sales.
How much does POS hardware cost?
